Explore the various Laser Cutting Services that A-Laser offers.

Laser Routing

Laser routing is the through cut contouring process used to create precise custom parts for a wide range of industries. The appropriate technology is typically determined by the material, thickness and details of the specific job. We are able to work with metals in thicknesses between .0005″- .040″ and non-metals between .0001″ and .060″. Show more…

At times a variety of systems could be used to produce a particular part, but our operators are trained to make use of the ideal system for any particular design to provide our customers with their ideal quality level. Our laser cut parts meet the highest standards because we make use of the best technologies available.

Our UV laser cutting systems route a variety of films, foils and adhesives through use of an ablation process, sublimating materials rather than burning. This yields parts with virtually no remaining carbon to contaminate the material or project. Utilizing a beam diameter less than 20 microns, tight line spacing, fine pitch, radius free corners are taken to new levels of precision while still focusing on improved cycle time and maintaining competitive price models. Our UV systems are used in a variety of applications, such as flexible circuit processing, high precision gaskets and shims, test socket pins, probes and spacers, wafer sizing and on and on. We are challenged with new materials daily and have become adept in tool development and cycle improvement.

The IR laser cutting systems are utilized in precision processing for a variety of metals and alloys, though most typically stainless steel. Applications range from shims and washers to mini stencils, surgical devices and other custom medical device parts. Our operators have access to multiple NdYag and Fiber laser systems developed by LPKF. The cut quality and accuracy gained from their highly colummated beam delivery and motion systems give a leg up on competitors, but the experience and creativity of our operators takes us to the next level.

Laser Skiving

Skiving is the selective removal of very thin material layers, typically used to expose copper or materials in a secondary layer, but also applicable in creating fluidic channels. A-Laser’s ability to offer a clean, consistent trace improves the functionality of the end product, decreases failure risks and increases part efficiency. Show more…

The <20 micron beam diameter allows us to work in extremely fine contours, while cleanliness of the skived area ensures that all contacts function at their highest level.

Our laser cutting service skives using our UV lasers. A major benefit of UV laser skiving is that carbon residue is virtually eliminated. Therefore, our customers can find savings in time and money by reducing post process cleaning. The laser skiving service is precise to 12 microns, meaning a reduction in product fallout and creating a difference in the bottom line. A-laser will deliver a very high quality product every time.

Laser Depaneling

Laser depaneling is a fast growing portion of our overall laser cutting services due to A-laser’s high cut quality, quick turn capability, and material handling experience. The UV laser systems ablate a material, thus vaporizing rather than melting, creating a nice, burr free edge and leaving virtually no carbon residue. Show more…

Therefore, circuit failures and extra cleaning processes are greatly reduced; providing cost savings in addition to the high quality already expected. Laser cutting is CAD driven which allows for immediate implementation of design changes and laser beams don’t dull or chip, which means there isn’t the added expense or time wasted waiting for hard tools. We are aware that little details, such as wearing proper gloves to avoid oil from fingertips, can have a huge impact post cutting processes and make sure our entire laser cutting group are trained to know the handling demands of our customers.

Our laser depaneling process, also, creates numerous benefits for our customers that are not quite as obvious.

  • <20 micron beam size allows part spacing to be tighter = material savings
  • Customers can push components right up to the edge of their board, as there is very little thermal influence
  • High precision cuts (+/- .0005″) add greater reliability
  • Contact free laser processing ensures the integrity of your panels

It’s important for a laser cutting service to understand the needs of their customers. We have years of experience singulating panels and chips for a wide range of applications. The key is communication. We take the extra steps to be certain our customers receive the best laser cut product available. Laser cutting has become a key component in higher and more reliable performance of electronics components. Our group will always strive to outperform and raise the bar for custom laser cutting and laser micromachining services in today’s market.

Laser Drilling

A-laser has the equipment, expertise, and quick turn capability to provide our laser cutting service customers with precision laser drilled panels of the highest quality in the shortest time. We know how critical tolerance is to high-end medical, aerospace and military applications and we meet that need by providing laser cut parts within .0005″ (12 micron) tolerances. Show more…

The motion system used on our UV laser systems is second to none in the industry, remaining stable year after year to ensure that the last batch is just as accurate as the first.

Laser cutting Kapton and other typical flex materials on UV lasers yields a virtually carbon free cut and burr-free edges that will ensure your contacts are clear and plating will take. UV lasers operate at a very high power density, allowing us to vaporize the material in micron increments with a beautifully collimated beam of less than 20-micron diameter.

Laser Marking

Serial numbers, bar codes, part numbers and logos can be laser marked in a wide variety of materials. Show more…

The laser process ensures a quality, precision, permanent mark that is highly repeatable and can be created on flat as well as 3-D surfaces. Systems utilized by A-Laser can create characters smaller than 20 mils lightly marked into the surface or etched to specified depths.
